Locals
mick -- amused by locals
This photo was snapped at Klandorah (formerly known as Mandorah) just prior to Australia's Rapid Response Group arriving in East Timor nearly a quarter of a century after hostilities started. The notice states, "Cox CouNtRy cLuB use oNLy !!" As well as exposing racism and political corruption in the Northern Territory PARIAH members were (and still are) active in exposing Australia's involvement in the brutal genocide of the East Timorese people. To this end we placed some pro-democracy East Timor posters on the Notice-board above and on the local Fire Brigade's Notice board. (CPVBB) The posters
were torn down repeatedly or defaced by locals and notices were put
up on both boards to stop us publicizing the rape, torture and mass
killings of innocent human beings.
When the Oil Companies decided it was time to send the 'diggers' in, these same locals placed notices up on the same Notice boards asking for donations of clothes, food, etc... for the East Timorese refugees. The same people who fought our efforts to have the U.N. and Australia intervene in East Timor, were the same people lining the streets - waving Australian flags - when the first Australian troops arrived back in Darwin. The 24 years of East Timorese resistance by Falintil to the Australian trained Indonesian military is not a subject for National consumption here. Such facts do not fit in to the new history we have already written, in an attempt to conceal our support of Suharto's genocidal regime in East Timor.
