Families to lead march for justice

The families of two Aboriginal youths who were killed as a result of a high speed chase in August 2000 will lead a march to the Pirie Street office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in a bid to see justice done in relation to the deaths of their children.

The march will leave the offices of the Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement, 321 King William Street, at 11am tomorrow.

It is the second anniversary of the deaths of Anthony Wilson, aged 14, and Robert Harridine, aged 16, on 9 August.

The parents of both boys and the Aboriginal Community at large, are calling on Paul Rofe, Director of Public Prosecutions, to provide justice for Aboriginal people in this matter.

According to Aboriginal Justice Advocacy Committee chairperson, Mr Tauto Sansbury, the vigilante-style road rage attack has caused widespread concern within the Aboriginal Communities. “A thorough investigation of this appalling event must be undertaken,” said Mr Sansbury, “and charges laid in relation to the tragic deaths which occurred on that night.”

“This will give justice and peace of mind to the grieving families and send a clear message that violent attacks will not be tolerated by society and that perpetrators will feel the full weight of the law.”
