Dear Baxterwatchers,

This is an urgent call for your support ...

Since the infamous TAMPA Days, Project SafeCom has been an integral part of the refugee action network around Australia.

·  we've been part of the growing protest and fiercely dissenting chorus of those who are committed to provide a stiff opposition to Australia's horrendous mandatory detention policies.

·  we have been part of those organizations who are committed to telling the story of those who have become the innocent victims of the Howard and Ruddock 'solution'.

·  we have been amongst those organizations and alliances who propose  to provide alternatives to the psychologically scarring policies.

·  through our publications, website and flyers available in local  stalls wherever we have been, we have attempted to provide information,  education, and have fought fiercely to counter the barrage of manipulation and misinformation Australia's Immigration Minister unleashed on Australians.

Many of you have received our FREE Daily Refugee News and Updates, our essential tool for refugee advocates since September 2001. [read them here:
http://www.topica.com/lists/safecom/read ]

... oh, and there are eighty pages on our website where people can read and learn, and our quotes have gone around the world in newspapers in the last year  ...

Anyway, we could go on for a bit - that would most likely be spouting from some ego thing. Truth is, that right now, we need your help in our survival and ongoing work.

We are an Incorporated Association in Western Australia, and we exist from donations, memberships, and the sale of some small items at stalls, or our website - and sometimes, through a fundraiser.

And right now, we need you to help us out. With a small donation, with a membership, or with a substantial donation or periodical pledge.

Subject: [baxterwatcher] Thankyou Message from Friends in Baxter
Date: Fri, 25 Apr 2003

For those who went to Baxter

I just got off the phone after talking to SS, recently arrived in Baxter from Woomera. He asked me to please try to get this message out to everyone who went to protest at Baxter.
Jane Keogh, Canberra.

"I very much appreciate the people who came here for the Easter. They could have had good holiday for Easter, Australian holiday, but instead they come here to us. We much appreciate it. Please tell all your friends the Australian people who came here that not only me but all the people in detention we very much appreciate you and your kind hearts and your compassion and your shouting for us. This very important thing for us that you come. It does good for us and never we forget you came for us. Please can you get this message to everyone.Tell them from our heart we say you good people for us".
